Recovery, Healing, Outreach, Awareness: A Podcast About Domestic Violence

Domestic or intimate partner violence is a complex and silent epidemic that affects millions of people worldwide.

To respond to the overwhelming issues associated with domestic violence, Randi’s House of Angels (RHOA) has produced a series of podcasts that will bring this epidemic to the forefront of public consciousness and break the silence that often shrouds it.

By creating a dedicated platform, RHOA hopes to create a safe space for survivors, advocates and experts to share their stories, insights and knowledge. A series of topics will be discussed that can offer vital support and resources to victims and survivors, helping them realize that they are not alone and that there is help available.

It can also serve as a catalyst for raising awareness and fostering necessary conversations within families, communities and institutions to empower individuals, foster empathy, and inspire collective action towards eradicating domestic violence while creating a safer, more compassionate society.

We invite you to access these podcasts here.

Content Areas: Recognizing Warning Signs: Red Flags, Factors Contributing to Teen Dating Violence, Prevention and Education

Facilitator: Sherry Peters

Guest: Ann Gerras

Today, we will explore the various forms of teen dating violence, including physical, emotional, verbal, and digital abuse, and highlight positive and healthy relationship examples. We will discuss how technology and social media (both in-person and online interactions) impact teen dating violence, including cyberbullying, harassment, and controlling behaviors online. Explore how media and peer influence shape attitudes toward relationships and influence behaviors among teens. Finally, discuss common warning signs of abusive behavior in teen relationships.

Ann Gerras is a seasoned counselor with almost two decades of experience as a school counselor and educational leader. She currently delivers the Randi House of Angels curriculum, designed to break the cycle of domestic violence, to boys in 5th through 8th grades at the Nativity School in Harrisburg. Two years ago, Ann was credentialed as a Court Appointed Special Advocate and works with a family of 6 children to help navigate the foster care system. Certified in Safe Crisis Management for over 10 years, Ann was also a seasoned Trainer for the Family Support Alliance and taught the program, “Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse” to school educators. Her extensive qualifications include certifications in the Student Assistance Program, Trauma Informed Educational Practices, Mental Health First Aid, and more. Ann has a Master’s Degree in Counseling from Penn State and also holds a Principal Certification from Shippensburg University.
